[DeleGate-En] Simple questions...
13 Sep 1999 18:16:28 GMT Tomislav Randjic <pi4babdyi-p5lznxnpuzxr.ml@ml.delegate.org>

Hi,

I have couple of questions regarding running Delegate under Windows NT
4. First, the things I think are "bugs": if I explicitly say to Delegate to
use specific interface like

 delegate.exe -P192.168.0.1:8080 ...

I get (at least ;) two error messages in my LOG file:

08/19 18:32:46.75 [246] 0+0: ERROR can't goto WORKDIR=/Program
Files/DeleGate/work/192.168.0.1:8080
and
08/19 18:34:13.21 [491] 1+1/1: ####LS cannot open /Program
Files/DeleGate/act/delay/05/192.168.0.2:PEPE

which is normal because NTFS can not have files which have ":" in the
filename, so these must be the places where author forgot to convert ":" to
".."

Other thing I would like to know is why Delegate is "spawning" so much
processes. After nightly studing of log files ;) all I can figure out is
that after every connection from client Delegate spawn 4 or 5 processes to
handle requests. Under NT that's ~ 2 Mb for each process - for only four
cliens it can be on the peak more than 25Mb in memory. I supose that under
UNIX and it's concept of shared memory it's not a big problem, but port to
NT should use some mechanism to reduce memory usage (or do I have some way
to do it), or is it sharing memory but task manager is somehow wrong?.

And, lastly, couple of questiones regarding performance. Will the use of
these parameters improve perfomance on standard NT-Delegate-Dialup
connection? And by the way, if I run my HTTP proxy, there is also and one
MASTER/GENERALIST process on the same machine?

RESOLV="cache,dns,sys"
CONNECT="c,d,m:*:*"  <-- specialy this one :)

And :) somewhere is written that SMTP server/proxy/relay is RFC821 compliant,
but it doesent recognize RESET at least (but looking into source - there seems
to be other missing too :) command (RSET). That is making some problems with
some MUAs. Here is log:

Ups, other one :) POP proxy is aparently doing buffering (in a file?) of
incoming messages, so some MUA (OE5) are getting timeouts on large mails -if
email is small everything looks fine, but on big emails noting appens untill
whole mail is downloaded by Delegate which confuses OE (and probably the
others MUAs).

Sorry about so much questions, but I think it will interest whole
NT-Delegate community :)

P.S. Somewhere is mentioned PGP support in Delegate. How? Where? Who? :)

Regards,
Tomislav Randjic
