It seems that I did not (could not) find the proper specification
about PLAIN SASL when I implemented it at DeleGate/7.4.0.
Now I found RFC2595 (ftp://ftp.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2595.txt) which says:
>message = [authorize-id] NUL authenticate-id NUL password
Thus I confirmed that it must be as you wrote.
